Mission of
 SMAART America

A COMMITMENT TO PROMOTE AND UNIFY A COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS OF LIMITLESS EDUCATIONAL POTENTIAL WHILE INTERGRATING SOUND PRINCIPLES FOR LONG TERM EFFECTIVENESS

GOALS

Disturbed by the recent rash of violence and isolation against socio-economically disadvantaged students who displayed a high level of academic promise, Dr. and Mrs. Robinson felt a need to address this concern by providing an incentive based program that will help encourage students to reach their fullest potential.
Our goals in this effort are to:

INSTILL SELF - CONFIDENCE AND SELF - ESTEEM
PROMOTE ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP
PROVIDE MENTORSHIP
FOSTER ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
ENCOURAGE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

“We want students to feel good about being SMAART and letting them know that it’s cool to stay in school”.

WHAT IS A SMAART CARD?
A SMAART card is a debit gift card that has been designed exclusively for students in grades 6 – 12. The SMAART card can only be used to purchase school supplies, clothing, food, movie tickets, etc. The card can only be used by the student whose name appears on the card with proof of proper I.D. along with a personal PIN. The SMAART card is also a secured debit card that will restrict its use on tobacco and alcoholic purchases. A percentage of the monetary donations will be placed in a college scholarship fund that will be supported by the financial institution selected.

WHY A SMAART CARD?
The SMAART card concept was conceived by two educators who were very concerned by the disproportionate number of socio-economically disadvantaged students being deprived of financial incentives (rewards, allowances, recognitions etc.) due to their classification. Dr. Robinson, a high school administrator, approached this concept as a tool that would provide academic awareness in helping students strive for academic excellence. Mrs. Robinson, a high school guidance counselor, focused primarily on finding alternatives to violence, peer pressure and at risk students.

WHO RECEIVES A SMAART CARD?
The SMAART card will be issued to students who attain high academic achievement in core classes (Math, English, and Science) but not limited to core classes solely. Students will be expected to maintain at least a 2.6 GPA (grade point average) on a 4.0 weighted or un-weighted grading scale.
